Story and significance
On August 17, 2011, Lionel Messi reached 200 senior career goals in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid. Barcelona won 3–2 at Camp Nou and secured the trophy 5–4 on aggregate.
Messi had already scored before halftime when the rivals reached the closing minutes level at 2–2. He then met Adriano's cross with a close-range volley, restoring Barcelona's lead and turning career goal 200 into the trophy-winning strike.
The goal completed a performance in which Messi scored twice and assisted Andrés Iniesta. It also attached a major personal milestone to one of the most intense El Clásico contests of that period.
